Job Description:
Our client, the leading pensions and insurance company in the UK are looking for a Chief Data Scientist lead. This role will work closely with the Head of Data Science and will have the opportunity to sit on leadership meetings. This role sits just below executive level, so if you are keen to impact the strategy of the business please get in touch.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Lead Data Scientist role, team lead oversight and innovation leader for data scientists, task management and allocation
- Maturity to lead and build team and data science capability from ground up
- Ability to work across the spectrum of projects and initiatives within a day, for example peer review data scientists code, explain in lay language the nuances of different ML strategies and working closely with Chief Data Scientist to advance key tenants of Data Science Strategy
- Broad experience of developing and deploying statistical and machine learning models (supervised and unsupervised)
- Essential - Python Expertise, SQL, Big Data (Spark), BI tool (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, QuickSight, Qlik)
- Modern software development experience and toolkit e.g. Git, code reviews, Data Science CookieCutter, Environments, Docker, Feature Stores, CI/CD
Core Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a team of data scientists, establish best practices and deploy modern software development techniques to learn, build and scale data science solutions
- Work with the business to design and develop solutions to solve business problems
- Deep understanding of methodologies and approaches to sufficiently explain trade-offs, nuances of approach(es) to technical and lay person audience
- Work closely with the data community to build capabilities and to mentor and influence more broadly the importance of data science
- Source, determine and assess data availability and quality as to whether fit for purpose and propose steps if not
- Strong communication skills to articulate how problems can be solved with data driven approach, build confidence in proposal and solution, create narrative, provide clarity and comprehension of solution
