Job Description:

A respected client of Core Asset is in the market for a Senior Accountant who will define, implement and execute the primary valuation oversight framework for a significant book of illiquid asset investments.

Our client, a leading pensions and life insurance company are looking for a highly motivated valuation oversight specialist to join our investments team within finance to support the development of our key valuation oversight controls over illiquid assets.

Essential Skills/Experience:

• Appropriate professional qualification in accountancy or recognised investments qualification
• Experience working in large financial services and/ or asset management business
• Valuation experience of hard to price/ illiquid assets
• Proven track record of developing and embedding robust valuation processes or oversight controls over illiquid/ hard to price assets
• Understanding of different investment valuation techniques and best practices.
• Knowledge of market data and inputs useful for illiquid investment valuations.
• Experience of working within a Financial Controls environment
• Experience of implementing change and new procedures and processes.
• Confident, self-starter with experience of major change
• Knowledge and experience of investment valuation, accounting & reporting
• Strong analytical and report writing skills

Core Responsibilities:

• Design and development of a robust valuation oversight framework & associated controls and processes which serve to robustly challenge illiquid asset valuation.
• Review, enhance and design new controls around illiquid investments.
• Implementation and execution of key valuation oversight controls over illiquid assets.
• Co-ordinate and perform assurance work over processes at outsourced service providers (OSPs)
• Critically challenge valuation methodologies at OSPs.
• Build and interrogate valuation model checks and controls as required.
• Opine on reasonableness of investment valuations with respect to market data, inputs and best practice.
• Benchmark illiquid valuations against observable market data, investigate and document rationale for quarterly movements.
• Responsible for delivering and executing BAU investment asset valuation oversight processes, validation checks and controls to ensure the robustness and accuracy of asset values in the ledger and asset data store
• Documentation of methodologies, reviews and conclusions covering illiquid assets valuations.
• Opportunity to work with various stakeholders, internal & external to business e.g. various functions within internal asset management teams & external asset managers.
• Support the team with governance papers for on-boarding new illiquid assets.
• Develop an excellent understanding of the legal and economic characteristics of investments held.
