Job Description:

Our client, a well-established Private Bank, is seeking an experienced Banking Director to join their Commercial team in Edinburgh. This role offers the opportunity to manage and develop a portfolio of commercial clients, delivering tailored lending, deposit and banking solutions while building strong, long-term relationships.

The successful candidate will combine strong commercial awareness with a relationship-led approach, working with a diverse client base ranging from small enterprises to large corporate organisations. You will be responsible for growing a profitable and sustainable portfolio through effective client management, business development and the delivery of high-quality banking services.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working in Private or Commercial banking, specialising in Real Estate or Commercial Lending.
  • Chartered banking qualifiations.
  • Proven experience managing and developing commercial client relationships.
  • Strong business development capability and experience growing client portfolios.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to identify client needs through effective questioning and listening.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop a defined portfolio of commercial clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities through engagement with prospective clients and introducers.
  • Prepare and submit internal credit applications and monitor existing lending in line with credit policies.
  • Support deposit growth by presenting suitable savings solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Assess and manage potential transactions and client relationships in a professional and commercially sound manner.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies and risk appetite.
  • Maintain accurate client records in line with internal procedures, including KYC and anti-money laundering requirements.
  • Attend networking events and undertake targeted business development activity.
  • Maintain accurate records of meetings, prospects and opportunities within CRM systems.
