Job Description:

Core-Asset Consulting is working with a leading wealth management firm to recruit a Suitability Manager. This role can be based in London or Edinburgh.

This is an opportunity to take on a key role in overseeing suitability monitoring and client outcomes across discretionary investment management, advisory and wealth planning activities. Working closely with senior stakeholders and colleagues across the business, you will lead risk-based monitoring, support the development of colleagues and help ensure that potential client harm and control weaknesses are identified and addressed effectively.

Skills/Experience:

  • Significant experience within a retail discretionary or advisory investment environment.
  • People Management experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable FCA suitability and Conduct of Business requirements across discretionary investment management, advisory and wealth planning activities.
  • The ability to analyse monitoring data and produce clear, evidence-based reports for senior stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of clients' investment needs, portfolio risk and investment instruments, including fixed income, equities and cash.
  • Sound judgement, a strong client focus and the confidence to challenge unsuitable outcomes constructively.
  • Excellent organisational, attention-to-detail and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to balance planned activity, urgent issues and team support.
  • Professional experience in a similar role, ideally supported by a degree and a relevant investment, financial planning, risk or compliance qualification.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Planning and coordinating risk-based monitoring of Front Office advice-based activities, in line with the agreed framework and monitoring plan.
  • Allocating work across the team and providing technical direction, quality assurance, coaching, feedback and line management.
  • Personally reviewing complex or higher-risk discretionary, advisory and wealth planning cases, working collaboratively with other teams where required.
  • Assessing monitoring findings and recurring themes to identify potential client harm and control weaknesses, agreeing proportionate remedial actions and tracking their completion.
  • Coordinating investigations into potential suitability issues and breaches of client mandates, escalating material matters and issues outside delegated authority as appropriate.
  • Producing and analysing management information and key performance indicators covering monitoring results, competence, adherence to requirements and client outcomes.
  • Preparing suitability analysis and updates for senior management, Board and Committee reporting.
  • Providing practical guidance and constructive challenge to Investment Managers, Wealth Planners and other Front Office colleagues, while maintaining appropriate independence from client advice and portfolio decisions.
  • Working with Risk & Compliance and other teams on remedial actions, training and competence arrangements, including coaching informed by monitoring findings.
  • Conducting and quality-assuring assessments of regulated staff competence, including observing client meetings where appropriate, documenting findings and providing constructive feedback.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve monitoring methods, data quality and day-to-day processes within the established framework.
